Guruprasad is one of the few directors in Kannada who has managed to bag for himself a sort of fan following. Apart from Yograj Bhat, Suri and Prem, he is one director who is able to create some sort of hype about the film he directs all by himself. Surprisingly, compared to the other three, he has directed the least number of films.
Suri's Duniya and Guruprasad's Matha were made during the same time. While Suri's 6th film Kaddipudi is ready for release in a week, Director's Special is Guru's third film. But Guru's films have never lacked the hype and they are comparable with those of the other three peers. However, the relatively fewer number of theatres that his new film is releasing may concern his ardent fans. The film is releasing in about 50 theatres in Karnataka. This is also because Guru is the only star in the film. The leading man in the film is newcomer Dhananjaya.
Even before the release of the film, Dhananjay has bagged three other films, which shows the industry's confidence in Guru, if nothing else.
Guru's strength is his dialogues. No wonder that he was roped in to write dialogues for other films including Puneeth Rajkumar's Hudugaru. But his films are also known for their comedy and the deep inner meanings. Friday's test begins for him.
