After complaints by copyright holders Google is removing from its search results the links to torrents that allow illegal download of Kannada films. Copyright owners can complain about such links. In the case of Kannada films the Sun TV Network Limited had filed complaints with Google about several films in multiple links including Kotigobba, Kotigobba 2, Krishna Leela, Lucia, Manasaare and Mr & Mrs Ramachari. Apart from this they had also complained about several Tamil films for which they have purchased rights. The torrent download links to the above Kannada films were removed on September 4. A month earlier several other links to Kotigobba 2 were removed after similar complaints.
In earlier months download links to several other Kannada films have been removed after complaints. Individual producers and production houses have also complained to Google about the torrent links. The links removed include those of Ondu Motteya Kathe in August, Durgi and Dyavre in July and Hebbuli in June. Before that links to Thithi and several links to Rangitaranga were removed by Google in their search results. The fight against piracy is still not over says Kannada film industry people. Torrents have become the biggest source of piracy of movies after the curb on physical sales of CD and DVDs in public places.
