The story idea for Kotigobba 3 was given by none other than Sudeep. The Soorappa Babu film will start alongside Phailwan directed by Krishna after Sudeep completes shooting for The Villain. According to sources the idea for the basic story was Sudeep's.

It was developed into a full fledged story by the director. A new director is making his debut with Kotigobba 3. Producer Babu has not revealed the identity of the new director till now. Sudeep starred in Kotigobba 2 directed by KS Ravikumar who had also written the story for it. The original Kotigobba starring Vishnuvardhan was directed by Naganna and was an official remake of the Tamil film Baasha which was based on the Hindi film Hum.
