Film industries across India are likely to go on a strike on March 10 against the Union government's move to increase service tax from 12.4 percent to 14 percent in the Union budget today. The film industry was expecting a concession and had in fact hoped that it would be kept out of the service tax net.
However, rather than concession an additional burden has been placed on it and is likely to result in protests say film industry insiders.
The industry representatives had been calling for removing service tax and even given representations to the government in this regard. But all their efforts have not borne fruit.
The Kannada film industry too is likely to be part of the bandh sources said.
