History 67: MP Shankar's Unique Contribution Perhaps no other film maker, not just in Kannada but the entire world, made films only with wildlife and forests as the main theme. MP Shankar's Bharani Chitra is synonymous with films on wildlife. Gandadagudi, Mrugalaya, Kaadina Raja immediately spring to mind. Shankar, who was a professional wrestler having taken part in Dasara games, entered films in 1962 in Hunasur Krishnamurthy's Ratnamanjari. Before that he had formed his own drama troupe. His role as Veerabahu in the 1965 film Satya Harishchandra and the Pailwan in Naagarahaavu remains unforgetabble. Later in Bhootayyana Maga Aiyyu, he played Bhootayya, one of the most memorable characters in Sandalwood history. He turned producer with Kaadina Rahasya in 1968. His last film as producer was Gandadagudi Part 2. Shankar died on July 17, 2008.
