In 1964, N Lakshminarayan directed his first film Naandi. He worked as an assistant director till then. This film was a landmark as it gained national and international recognition. For the first time, the plight of deaf people was captured in a commercial film. Naandi was also the debut film of Dinesh. In 1965, Rajkumar acted Satya Harischandra was released. It was the costliest film based on mythology at that time. Pendyala Nageshwar Rao, the famous south Indian playback singer, scored music for this film. Actor Uday Kumar turned producer and dialogue writer for the film Ide Mahasudina.
