Exactly 30 years after the first talkie film was made in Kannada, the first colour film was made in 1964. BS Ranga produced and directed this film. Kalyan Kumar thus became the leading man of the first Kannda colour film.
The same year, Aa Na Krishna Rao and singer P Kalinga Rao made a guest appearance on screen for the film Tumbida Koda. For the film Shivagange Mahatme, GK Venkatesh's brother, GK Raghu scored the music. The same year, Chi Udayshankar wrote his first film song for the film Shivaratri Mahatme.
