The year 1959 was a landmark. At a time when the number of Kannada films dropped drastically, many actors and technicians were left without jobs. To revive the industry, some of them came together to form a cooperative forum and make a film. The first film to be made on a cooperative setup was Ranadheera Kanteerava. Rajkumar, Balakrishna, Narasimha Raju and GV Iyer produced this film on one of the famous rulers of the Wodeyar dynasty.
