In 1958, the film School Master created new records in not just popularity but also box office collections. This was BR Pantulu's first film as director. Tamil actor Shivaji Ganeshan acted in an important role in this film. The same year, Leelavathi made her debut in the film Mangalya Yoga. This was also Hunusur Krishnamurthy's directorial debut. Another landmark film Srikrishna Garudi was released this year.
