By the 1950s the Kannada film industry had established its production base in Madras along with the Tamil and Telugu film industries. Most of the Kannada films till then were made in Madras and Bombay regions.
The Navajyoti Studio was established in Mysore by Basavarajaiah during this time. Soon Mahatma Pictures started making most of its films in Navajyoti Studios. Kannada films began to have the tag, 'Made In Mysore.'
