In 1954, the film Jaladurga which was produced and directed by Kemparaja Urs, was based on the French adventure novel Count of Monte Cristo. The same year, B Vittalacharya independently produced Kanyadana under the banner Vittal Productions. Hunasur Krishnamurthy scored the music for the film under the name Gautham. He also sang a song for this film.
Pa Gundurao was introduced as a film writer with the film Muttidella Chinna. Popular humour writer Nadiger Krishna Rao wrote the dialogues for the film Natashekara in which Kalyan Kumar played the lead role. HL Narayana Rao wrote the dialogues and songs along with Hunasur Krishnamurthy for the film Rajalakshmi. Rao was the father of later superstar of Kannada film industry Vishnuvardhan.
