P Kalinga Rao contributed much to the film Vasantasena, that was released in 1941. He acted in the role of a Jain monk in the film and also composed tunes for four songs. The film was based on the Sanskrit play Mrichakatika by Shudraka.
The film, directed by Ramayyar Shirur, the film stood witness for eminent Kannada authors like Bellave Narahari Shastri, Devudu and B Puttaswamayya to make their contribution to films.
