Popoular playwright and novelist B Puttaswamaiah wrote the screenplay, dialogues and lyrics for the film Subhadra, that was released in 1937. C Pullaiah, who had directed films in Telugu by this time, directed this film and wrote a few songs as well. The shooting continued for 11 months in Pune's Aruna Studio.
Gubbi Veeranna, who was a co-producer of the film, left his professional drama troupe in charge of his son-in-law and stayed in Pune for a year overseeing the film's progress.
Popular director, V Shantaram had held the clap for the first shot of this film. Ashtan Vidhwan (court musician) B Devendrappa and Padmanabha Shashtri had compesed music for this film.
