Many films were made in the Surya Film Studio on Cunningham Road. This was Karnataka's first film studio as well. It was one of the most sophisticated studios with a processing lab included.
The studio had hand-operated cameras which were unique for the time. The studio did not have a ceiling and used sunlight for shooting. Out of the 55 films made in India during the five-year period, 50 of them were made in Bangalore's Surya Film Studio.
