Actor-writer-film director Mohan who is a close confidant of Crazy Star Ravichandran and music director Hamsalekha will now bring in both of them in a film to be directed by him. This untitled film is being produced by producer N. Kumar which will probably be launched in the last week of January.
Mohan (he has assisted director Ravichandran in writing the script and dialogues for many films) had thought of this crazy combination for the film ever since he sat for writing a new version of the film which is infact inspired by Tamil film Maayi which was remade in Telugu as Simha Raashi. He immediately contacted Ravichandran and convinced the Veteran of the advantages of bringing in Hamsalekha into the film. He also spoke to Hamsalekha to convince of working again with Ravichandran who was infact his mentor in the film industry. It is long time since both these crafty technicians had worked in any film, the last being Rockline Venkatesh's film Ondhaagonaa Baa directed by Udayashankar.
Mohan has already finished the script work and has also written the dialogues of the film. Talking to Chitraloka, Mohan said that Hamsalekha has already started the music composition work and he will be selecting the artists of the film shortly.
Golden Star Ganesh who is now in Chennai to attend the final editing of his directorial venture Kool is clearly upset about the allegations made against him by Eno Onthara producer M Chandrashekhar in a press conference that he addressed on Monday. He is just leaving to abroad to shoot the songs of his film Kool, but was really hurt when he came to know that both Chandrashekhar and the film's director Mussanje Mahesh had made derogatory allegations on him.
Talking to chitraloka.com Ganesh Said "I had attended the promotional programmes to many television channels like Suvarna news TV, Udaya TV and in many other channels. I myself called some of my television channel friends to Sakleshpur and gave promotional bites about the film. Chandrashekhar knows these things fully well. I can criticise hundreds of things about
Chandrashekhar who did not plan anything about the film including the film's publicity or release. I did not press him to pay him the amount of Rs. Seven lacs at any time after the cheque was bounced four times in succession. I sincerely participated in all the promotional programmes of the film. He said that he would release the film on September 10 and I had even cancelled my trip to America to promote the film. I had even cancelled the Navika programme earlier because Chandru was telling me that he has planned the audio release of the film. But see what I am getting from him in return.
He says that he has lost crores of rupees because I did not promote the film properly. If he had suffered huge losses because of me, then why he is so particular about my call sheet now. I am certainly not doing this film because I cannot be scared at gun point. He told me that the songs would be shot in abroad, but he finally shot the songs in Munnar. He did not have a correct planning for shooting the film at any time. And when I was busily engaged in shooting work of my films Maduve Mane and Kool, he would come out with dates for promotion, press meets and even audio release function. He is only talking about me and my so called non co-operative attitude. He should also answer why other artists of the film did not attend his promotional programmes. I showed so much of interest during the shooting of the film that despite bad planning, I personally told responsibility in completing the shooting by requesting other artists and technicians' says Ganesh.
Ganesh says that he had given call sheet for Chandrashekhar for a different film called Mareyuva Munna which was to be directed by Bharat. But he developed serious differences with Bharat and dropped the film. "Chandru had taken a loan of 40 lacs from Mahesh Kothari for Mareyuva Munna which was dropped. Sensing that Kothari would demand that amount, Chandru requested me to give him dates for the remake of Kushi. Though I was not interested to act in a remake of a successful film, he forced his decision on me. But after agreeing to work in the film, I had put my heart and soul in the shooting work of the film despite getting the payments at irregular intervals. If this is not co-operation, I dont know what is the meaning of co-operation. Now, since the film had failed, he wants to put the blame on me' says Ganesh.
The Jury committee which was engaged to select the best film, artists and technicians of the film has really made a big mess in its selection. While there can be a debate on some selections , one thing is certain. There seems to be less of application among Jury members to select the best in each category.
The selection of K.S.R.Doss for the prestigious Puttanna Kanagal Award and later changing it to Jnanapit award winner and award winning film director Girish Karnad who is certainly the most deserved person to receive this award calls for severe condemnation.
Even while Bhargava, the Chiarman of the Jury Committee was announcing the name of K.S.R.Doss there were severe criticism from the journalists who were attending the press conference. Rather than defending his stand in selecting Doss, Bhargava simply changed his decision and made an announcement that Girish Karnad has been selected for the award.
This was the biggest Joke that occurred today afternoon at the press conference. A veteran director like Bhargava should have struck to his stand or should have said that he will discuss the issue with other members of the committee. Even the members of the Jury were there in the press conference and the change of name was announced in presence of all the jury members.
What will happen now? Doss has directed around 90 films so far in his career out of which more than twenty films were in Kannada. Doss has made successful films with Dr. Vishnuvardhan, Rajnikanth, Arjun Sarja, Shankar Nag and others. It is not that he did not deserve the award, though there can be eternal debate on the quality of the films. But once the Jury had selected his name, what was the necessity in changing this award after criticism by some media personalities.
Now, it has to be seen whether Girish Karnad will accept this award for which he was not selected initially, but had come to him by default.
Not a single poster of the film till the date of release in many areas around the city. No cut outs even in main suburban theatres. Absence of multi coloured design posters, no pre release television channel interviews by the team. The film getting released in theatres which have not been featured in news paper advertisements.
More than any other things, the much discredited hero of this film cooling his heels in Parappana Agrahaara Jail refusing to meet any one from the industry. His wife's police complaint against him had marred his reputation as channels and print media had rightfully criticised him for his high handedness.
That is the virtual reality that was visible to the eyes before the release of Darshan's Saarathee. With such a bad publicity management of the film, no one in the industry thought that the film would get a decent opening. Some people were even telling that even main theatre Narthaki will have only two shows housefull on day one.
All these fears were dispelled on Friday morning when at around 5.00 A.M. in early morning tickets were issued in Narathaki and Prasanna theatres in Bengaluru and some theatres in Mysore. The fans of Darshan had dispelled any impressions about poor opening for the film.
They stormed the theatres screening the film in the entire state to give a thumbs up opening for the film. That is Darshan's box office Stamina and the main reason why Chitraloka described him as a Sultan of Huge openings. Narthaki had four full shows, in the suburban theatres the collections showed improvement in night shows. Many theatres reported house full shows in the night show, while the matinee and first show recorded 80 percent occupancy. The opinion was strong enough to make even doubting thomasses to visit the theatres screening the film.
Darshan fans thought his marital acrimony was a strictly personal affair and they do not take count on such extraneous factors to influence them when they are watching the film. For them the entertainment offered by Darshan was more important than the cases pending against him.
Fans in Mysore, Davanagere, Hubli, Gadag, Ranebennur, Chitradurga, Mandya, Hassan, Tumkur and many other centres have made it sure that the film got the biggest opening. The fact that the film was also well made has generated lot of excitement among D fans and other Kannada film fans.
Thankfully, Dinakar brother of Darshan who directed the film struggle hard to write a credible and gripping script that could attract all the audience. The film was a likeable and laudable effort from the word go. The result is that Sarathee has recorded the biggest opening for any Darshan film so far. Except in Multiplexes, where the publicity makes a great impact in attracting crowds.
The media which had pounced on him when he was charged by his wife for assault and threat showed its objectivity and impartiality by recording its appreciation for the content of the film. The Television channels did put in visuals to show the exuberance of Darshan's fans in theatres. It was certainly a great victory for the media also which displayed its non partisan attitude.
Chitraloka joins the Sarathee Bandwagon to wish the film a great success. Let us hope people like K.V.Sathya Prakash and Dinakar will be encouraged to give more ventures like Sarathee. We would also like to advise the Sarathee team to go whole hot in publicising the film well as the film has already obtained a very good opinion and opening on day one. Efforts are to be made to see that the film will be well publicised to reach the multiplexes audience too.
