Upendra starrer 'Superro Ranga' should have been started by now. But the film is being delayed for various reasons. One of the reasons said to be the delay of the launch is the change in the director of the film.
Earlier Ramesh Aravind was supposed to direct this movie. Then it was being said that Upendra's protege Loki will direct the film.
Speaking to Chitraloka director Loki said Last week it was decided this movie will be directed by Sadhu Kokila. Actually original Kick movie director Surendra Reddy was supposed to direct this film. Since he was busy it had gone to Ramesh Aravind. Producer K Manju is doing one movie and it will be straight subject which I will be directing.
Sadhu Kokila has directed two films for Upendra earlier and both the films were remakes. It was Upendra's 'Rakta Kaneeru' in which Sadhu made his debut as a director. Later Sadhu directed Upendra in 'Anatharu'. Now if the news turns out to be true, then Sadhu will direct Upendra for the third time.
Polyglot actress Ramya Krishnan is making a comeback in Kannada with Sweety. The veteran actress who was once the darling of the masses in Tamil, Telugu and Kannada has been absent from the screen for sometime. Her last big film in Kannada was Ekangi with Ravichandaran in 2002. After that she was seen in a few films including Baa Baaro Rasika and Sri Kalikamba Mahatme. But these went largely unnoticed. Ramya Krishnan was once a popular lead pair for the late Vishnuvardhan and Ravichandran starting from Krishna Rukmini and going on with films like Gadibidi Ganda, Mangalya Tantu Nanena, Sneha and Raja Narasimha.
Director Vijayalakshmi Singh said that Ramya plays an important role in her film Sweety. It is not a cameo but a major role that is very significant for the plot. Sweety is also the comeback for actress Radhika who is playing the female lead opposite Aditya.
Radhika had last acted with Aditya in her last film before marriage; Eshwar. But that film never released.
Actor-director Upendra, whose film Super was in the centre of a court case challenging the State Film Awards 2010-11, has welcomed the High Court's order and the Government decision to reconstitute the jury and start the selection process afresh. Basant Kumar Patil and Priya Hasan had challenged the 2010-11 awards on grounds that included the presence of Super's cinematographer Ashok Kashyap in the jury that decided the awards. Super got the First Best Film Award.
Upendra, who is currently shooting in Thailand, spoke exclusively to chitraloka.com KM Veeresh and said, "I welcome the court's decision. If it is a court's decision, it will be correct and no one can question it. I have received the State Award twice and everyone should get it in correctly. If somebody feels there is something wrong and not satisfied with the awards process, the winners will not feel good. So it is better to select the awards so that no one is hurt. I will not say that those who filed the case are wrong. They have their concerns and it is right to question. When Super was announced as the winner, some people challenged it. The court has gone through all the relevant issues and ordered the selection process to begin again. For me, bagging an award is not important. I will want an award which everyone feels is deserving."
Asked about accusation that today's films do not have message to the society, Upendra said, "It is not right to say that all of today's movies are bad. Every film maker believes and tries to tell something. There is a message he wants to convey to the society. It is ture of every film. Like earlier, there are both kinds of movies; one which talks only about the message and the other which tries to do that in a commercial way. Unfortunately, only films which become commercial success are noticed. The others, even if good, do not come into prominence. Therefore, it is not right to compare one with the other."
If sources are to be believed then Ramya Krishna is likely to replace Juhi Chawla as the heroine to V Ravichandran in new film to be directed by Sudeep. Earlier, producer M N Kumar himself has confirmed that the team had contacted Juhi Chawla to play Ravichandran's heroine in the film. Ravichandran and Juhi made a great pair duing the late 80s and early 90s and the duo went on to act in films like 'Premaloka', 'Kindarijogi' and 'Shanti Kranti'. So, the team was very keen to cast Ravichandran and Juhi once again together.
Sources say, though Juhi was keen to come back with Ravichandran once again, she refused to do the role as she was supposed to play Sudeep's mother in the film. So, the team is thinking of casting Ramya Krishna for the role of Ravichandran's heroine. Ramya Krishna and Ravichandran was also the most wanted pair once upon a time and the duo acted in films like 'Ekaangi', 'Mangalyam Thanthu Nanena' and other films.
Now the question is whether Ramya Krishna will act in the film or not?
Sandalwood sources say that hectic efforts are on to secure the remake rights of Hindi film Special 26. The Akshay Kumar, Anupam Kher starrer film was both a critical and commercial success and was very different from the run-of-the mill Bollywood potboilers. The film is about a group of fake CBI officers who commit a huge heist without getting caught.
Sources say that director Naganna and Upendra are keen on making the film in Kannada. But the asking rate for remake rights is said to be too high. A deal may be stuck in a few days.
Upendra is currently acting Brahma by R Chandru and the Srinivasu Raju directed film whose name was changed twice and is currently untitled. If Uppi does the Special 26 remake, his directorial Upendra 2 could be further delayed.
