A state of emergency has been declared in Thailand, one of the most popular shooting locations for Indian films. Puneeth Rajkumar's Ninnindale is currently being shot in the country. But despite the politically turmoil in the country, the film team has not faced any problem.

Bobby, a popular film coordinator in Thailand speaking to Chitraloka said, "there is much noise about the emergency and political demonstrations in the media. But there is nothing to worry. The shooting of Ninnindale took place in Bangkok on Monday.

Today the shooting is taking place in a location two hours drive from here. The team will leave for Bangalore tomorrow. There are few other film shooting taking place at the moment including a Tamil and Punjabi film. A Bengali team arrived this morning."

Finally, the team of Gajakesari have selected the elephant that will play an important role in the film. For the last one year, the search has taken place around the world literally. The first choice was an elephant in Thailand, but various hurdles put paid to that plan. But now, the elephant for the role has been found closer home in Waynad, Kerala. The elephant is called Arjuna and the shooting for the fourth schedule of the film involving the elephant started earlier this week.

Arjuna is a tusker and is one of the biggest domesticated elephants in India. The shooting is underway in Vagamon in Waynad. This place has a high concentration of domesticated elephants and Arjuna was found among them. The shooting will continue for three more weeks and 10 days of it will be for action sequences. Among actors taking part in the shooting are lead actor Yash, Amoolya, Sadhu Kokila, Shabaz Khan, Hyderabad Prabhakar, Chennai Johnny Vijay and others.

The cold wave sweeping Waynad has the team in a little trouble though. The sunlight peaks at noon and rapidly vanishes in mist. Visibility is also diminished for most part of the day. All the actors and technicians are braving the extreme cold for the shooting. Even producer Jayanna is in Waynad. Director Krishna is leaving no stone unturned to complete the shooting in the scheduled three weeks.

Except for one, all negative film processing labs in south India including in Bangalore have been shut down. Last week 30 employees of Prasad Labs were sent home. This marks the final step in the film industry's move from the analogue to digital technology.

At one point there were three negative processing labs in Bangalore alone including those of Prasad and Gemini. All three are shut now. There are labs for digital intermediaries now as all films are being shot on digital cameras like 5D, Red camera and others. Almost all films over the world are now shot on digital cameras. There are some rare exceptions. George Lucas has announced that he will shoot Star Wars Episode 7 on film stock rather than with digital camera.

In Telugu some big stars used to have mentioned in their contracts that the film would be shot on negative. But the trend has completely changed and industry sources say no New film in any south Indian film will be shot using film stock.
The process of shutting down processing labs started last year and is 90 percent complete in India. Within this year the use of negatives is expected to be nil and it is likely to be 100 percent digital
