Multiple award winning filmmaker Dr. Girish Kasaravalli turns 70 on Tuesday. Padmashree awardee, was born in Kasaravalli Village on 3rd December in 1950. After completing his primary education at his village and then B. Pharmacy from College of Pharmacy, Manipal, he later joined Film and TV institute in Pune.
He has won at least 16 national film awards for his films under various categories with 24 International awards amongst several other recognitions.
The South Asian Film Foundation, London has given him “The Excellence in Cinema award for the year 2009”. His wife late Vaishali Kasaravalli, an actress, writer, costume Designer has directed many stage plays, teleserials and has also translated few plays from Hind and Marathi.
His son Apurva Kasaravalli recently directed Niruttara and his daughter Ananya Kasaravalli's Hari Katha Prasanga has been shown in more than 35 international Film Festivals.
