  • How Nagarahavu Created Dr.Vishnuvardhan?

    nagarahavu movie image

Nagarahavu is the first Indian film, which used CGI (computer generated image) Technology for recreating Dr.Vishnuvardhan. In simple form, CGI Technology is Head replacement.

The dupe of character will be used for performance then head replacement will be done by Digital head, that is CGI. It's is one of the most difficult work to do, we have to match body action, face expressions and voice of the character. In making Dr.Vishnuvardhan it was more challenging because Director wants to make similar getup, which used in his previous films, as it will connect to the audience immediately. In our film, Vishnu Sir's presence is about 9 mins in the climax.

It took 32 months to create 9 mins. VFX Studio has to work on each and every frame. Till now, in media no one attempted to use this technology, because it consumes more time and money. Even after completing, satisfaction is impossible. Here Mukuta Effects- 2 times national award winner for Eega and Bahubali took the challenge to create Dr. Vishnuvardhan and worked day and night.Director has provided his time to approve quality and do proper shoots. Producer invested 15Cr for this particular 9 mins of Dr.Vishnuvardhan. According to the producer, in this 15Cr he can bring any big star from any language to place in this particular role. But he took challenge to bring back Dr.Vishnuvardhan and create history in Indian cinema.

Director asks the Indian film makers to create any legend. These r the works Hollywood creators are talking about. In this movie one hour VFX is made wIth The budget of 9cr. Producer Sajid Qureshi spent 24Crores only on VFX. The producer says the figures are genuine and won't misguide the film makers with incorrect numbers. Producer wants more makers to come forward for making good projects.

Producer Sajid Qureshi is expecting this year's National and International awards for his VFX attempt. He is also happy to know that,Telugu Superstar Nagarjuna was inspired with Nagarahavu and wants to bring back his later Father, Akkineni Nageshwar Rao on screen through CGI technology.

  • Kaveri Changes Course Of Many Kannada Films

kaveri changes course of many kannada films

The Kaveri river water crisis that has hit Karnataka in the last two weeks has also upset the plans of many Kannada films. After the bandh and subsequent violence, the direct impact was on the two films that released a day after the bandh. Mungaru Male 2 and Goli Soda lost the release day of September 9. They lost the collections of the opening day. After good showing on Saturday and Sunday they were once again hit by the violence in Bengaluru and other parts of Karnataka from Monday.

But this is not the end of the story. The Kaveri issue is far from over. In a few days, the Cauvery Supervisory Committee is meeting to decide on the quantum of water Karnataka has to release. Karnataka is saying it cannot release any more water. As per the Supreme Court direction, it is releasing water till September 20. If the Committee tells Karnataka to release water after that date, there could be more trouble. If the Committee says no more water, then Tamil Nadu can go to the Supreme Court again and there could be more trouble.

Sensing all this, releases of many films which were lined up for September have been postponed. Earlier Nataraja Service and Naagarahaau were expected to release in September itself. Now they are not releasing. Dodmane Huduga was supposed to release on September 23. Even though the film has already obtained the Censor Certificate, its release has been postponed by a week. Mukunda Murari was earlier scheduled to release on September 30. But it will now happen only in October. In the middle of these big films, many smaller films have also postponed their release indefinitely. Last Friday, at least six films were expected to release. But in the end, only two films dared to release.

If there are no rains in Karnataka in the next few weeks, the crisis could continue in October also. So the releases of Kannada films are severely affected and connected to what will happen in the Kaveri water dispute.

  • Naagarahaavu Review, Chitraloka Rating 4.5/5

    nagarahaavu review

How do you take a classic and make it even better? Balaji has done just that. He has taken the film Naagarahaavu, produced by his father Veeraswamy 45 years ago and  given it a new twist. He has released it in cinema scope with digital sound. You have to watch it in a theater to see the magic. Naagarahaavu is considered one of the  greatest classics of Kannada film industry. Puttanna Kanagal's magical direction, the endearing image of the angry-young-hero Vishnuvardhan, the memorable characters derived from three novels of Ta Ra Su, great music by Vijaya Bhaskar and equally great lyrics by some of the greatest Kannada lyricsts including Chi Udaya Shankar, Vijaya Narasimha and RN Jayagopal made this film an evergreen classic.

Most of us would know the story. But here is the brief outline. It is the story of Ramachari, an angry young man. He is hot-headed and easily provoked. The film is based on three novels and is very exhaustive. The film however confines to the youth Ramachari and mostly his love life. Ramachari is happy to be in the local gym than college. His love affair with a friend's sister is doomed. He agrees to his favourite teacher's request and forgets her. When he falls in love for a second time, it is a bigger challenge to not only him but the society around him. The film has some of the best performances by each actor be it Vishnuvardhan in his first film in a lead role or Ambareesh who appears in a small but significant role, or Shivaram who plays Ramachari's friend or Ashwath in a career defining role as Ramachari's teacher.

Without going much into the story, what needs to be appreciated is the effort that has gone into restoring the glory of the film and enhancing it. The original film had mono sound. Even those who have watched it in later years will know that sound effect is not like modern films. Now digial surround system has been introduced. The music has been recreated with actual instruments so that it sounds true to the original. It is not only as good as the original but the digital effect enhances the visual appeal of the film also.

Visually also the film has got a great boost. The 35mm in which the film was shot has now been digitally increased to 70 mm. So you can enjoy the film on the full wide screen. What people missed 45 years ago, they can enjoy in all glory now. The film was visually one of the best. It is still remembered for the innovations that Puttanna Kanagala introduced. One of them was brining a slow motion and a real speed image side-by-side and matching them perfectly (in the Baare Baare song). There was slow motion even before that but no one had tried bringing slow motion and real speed on the same screen. Now you can watch that magic on 70 mm.

Every shot and scene of the original film has been retained. You will not miss a single thing. Even if you have watched the film many times before, watching it in its new format on the big screen gives an experience like never before. This revised film is one of the biggest contributions to the film industry a second time.
