On this day, 66 years ago, Indian film industry witnessed the birth of a superstar on the silver screen with the release of Kannada feature film which introduced Rajkumar in the lead character portraying the character of Bedara Kannappa.

    History 25 - Rajkumar's First Film

The film went onto create a milestone in the Indian film industry with the lead actor eventually turning out to be as one of the greatest actors on the planet. Rajkumar soon became the premier actor of Kannada film industry and later the only actor to act in more than 200 plus films, in the lead as hero with 100 per cent success rate.

History 27 - Landmark Film Bedara Kannappa

The film - Bedara Kannappa, directed by H L N Simha and produced by Gubbi Veeranna and two others released on May 7, 1954. It also featured Pandari Bai, Raja Sulochana, and even marked the debut of one of the greatest comedian Narasimharaju.

The movie was also remade in Telugu, which was again a huge hit. It stands out to be the only non-Kannada movie featuring Dr. Rajkumar in his long drawn career.

Apart from winning national award for best film, the film was remade in other languages such as Tamil, Telugu and Hindi which makes it the first-ever pan-India movie from the Kannada film industry.

  • Booze party at Kanteerava Studios - Exclusive

Booze party image during lost bus audio release

For generations of Kannada actors and technicians, Sri Kanteerava Studios in Bengaluru has been a revered place of worship and not just a work place. Even when there was no shooting late legends like Rajkumar, Vishnuvardhan, Narasimharaju and many others would visit it to pay respects to the Muneshwara shrine there.

Last year the then chairman Rudresh managed to get constructed a new floor in the studio. Dharmasthala head Veerendra Hegde gave the name Manjusha (golden place) to the floor.

In this place today on Friday evening a drinks party has been organised. Unfortunately it is a film team which is doing it. The film team of Last Bus has organised this party as part of promotion of their film. The sad part is the film is made by the grandchildren of Sandalwood legend Narasimharaju.

Forget that the studio is a government property where such booze parties are not allowed. The fact that such a studio held in high esteem by all film personalities is being used for such a party defies logic. And few film personalities themselves are part of this party. There are few places where sanctity is left and if the film folks themselves break it, there cannot be a bigger tragedy for Kannada film industry.

    Update at 11.00PM

They have take the time tille 11 PM for the function. Tomorrow morning we are issuing a notice to the producer and will wait for the explanation within three days otherwise we are going to take action.
