The fact that Girish Kasaravalli directed "Kurmavathaara' produced by Basanth Kumar Patil was the only film that got the Best Regional film award against Six National awards for the Tamil films has made some serious film viewers to think whether the Kannada films got a raw deal this time by the Jury team headed by Ms. Rohini Haththangadi. Already the Telugu film industry has expressed their unhappiness about the way a films like Sreerama Jayam and Rajanna were ignored by the committee.
Though Byaari langauge film Byaari directed by Suveeran has got the Best film National award, it is a small consolation that the language is spoken by a small section of Kannadigas speaking in Mangalore and Ullal segments of Dakshina Kannada district.
The film that should have deserved attention was Baragooru Ramachandrappa's film "Bhageerathi' produced by B.K.Sreenivas which was based on a folk story popularly known as "Kerege Haara'. Already actress Bhavana has expressed dissatisfaction over the neglect of a film like Bhageerathi.
