What is the secret behind your success and what do you think is necessary for a man to do before his death?
My sheer dedication and sincerity to whatever I do. Plus, a lot I unknown factors like goodwill of others etc.It is necessary that you leave behind the world slightly better than it was when you came in. A good child, a great work done, a small tree planted all make your life well lived.

  • Raj, USA

As one of the highly talented performer in Kannada Film Industry, When can we expect National Best Actor award for you?  I strongly believe that you are one of the strongest contenders for it in near future.
National award is wishful thinking right now. Perhaps with another `Shaapa’ or `Amruthavarshani’ I could turn lucky. Nice to hear that you think I deserve it. You have made my day!

  • S. Krishna Bangalore
Why don’t you change your hairstyle? I suggest u to kindly do it. Will u??????

  • Mallikarjun.N, Gulbarga
Why don't act with shivarajkumar again?
It is on. `Ninne Preetisuve’ stars us together. We hope to create `Namoora Mandara’ magic again.

  • Sharukh kaun, New York
Had you trained to be an actor? What kind of preparation do you make before going on the sets?
No formal training. I watched a lot of plays and films when I was in school. All that went inside me. I learnt to observe people’s movement and study that has done, what and why. The subconscious understanding is other human helps me to portray other roles. It is just learn if to walk in other man’s shoes’. Once you know that it us easy.
Nowadays, I think I want the character `would do’ and not impose what `he ought to do’ or what I think `he should do. My personal judgment on issues should not see in to characters. Playing is past. With that in mind, a few readings of script and an effort towards Impressive mannerisms, walk, dialogue style makes it easy to approach a role.

  • Krishna Murthy, Nashville TN USA
Being an engineer by education, do you apply any of your engineering knowledge in your profession. If so, how?
Not directly. But no education goes waste in whatever you do. Your basic taste, judgments, choices everything is influenced by your education. My B.E. helps me in all that in cinema.

  • M.V.Dinesh, Bangalore
Why can't you act with Upendra or Acting in Upendra's direction?
It will happen very soon. Probably sooner than we both expect.

  • Idea Naren !
Once in an interview, you had told that, "For you, Film Land is like an Aero plane and your MECHANICAL engg. Degree is like a parachute". Since, you are on an aeroplane, you should have some destination, what is it? Do you still trust your 10+ yrs old parachute! Even if yes, it can only push you to the nearest ground level. So, how will you reach your destination then?
Great stuff. I liked your query.
For the parachute. True it is 10 years old. But I keep dusting I, overhauling it. Oiling it. So I haven’t really forgotten the basics (or have I)
The plane is hading to destination `National News’. I have become a better pilot in all these years. No crash-landing expected. Unless the World Trade Center tempts me.
I like your slogan now. Pity I missed while I gave away the prizes. How about a Pizza instead of a Prize. You buy me one.

  • Sarvesh, Bangalore
Hello sir, what is your ambition?
To me remembered as a good actor and a better human being.

  • Santosh Bangalore

I don’t know I’m smart. Perhaps that is the secret!

  • Vasantha, Davanagere
In most of your films you get the girl attracted but you don’t accept her?
Bad manners. No? I should change!

  • Mallanagoud  Patil, Bangalore
Why am I not finding any song in your films praising KANNADA language and Karnataka culture?
Why restrict the feelings to a single song in a film? My whole films are genuinely Kannada centers. For they all have local talent, local showing off our culture, our feelings, our kind of human being.

  • G.S. Kumar, Bangalore
    How was your kodai holiday?
Very well. I taught my daughter cycling which I couldn’t have done here. Weather was good too. The place I stayed was overlooking a lake and it was nice. If you are TOI kumar I owe you a thanks!

  • Deepak, Bangalore
Ramesh, how do you manage to stay out of controversies when others are involved?
I’m too busy concentrating on my work. My nature of trying not to hurt anyone keeps me neutral

  • Santosh.S.B, Bangalore
Why now a day the Kannada films are almost remaking. What’s the cause for this?
Their huge successes! All recent hits have been remakes, which has made their `selling capacity’ more believable to buyers. From the producers, buyers and audience point of view it is a safe bet. We as creative people find it less exciting than originals because of `low challenge’ value in it. Hopefully things will change soon.

  • Sudhakar.N, Salem
In your Preme No 1 a good strike with you and Prema, how do you feel with her and opinion.

  • Sapna, Mysore
You are the most natural actor the Indian screen has witnessed after sanjeev kumar and Kamal, what is your reaction (please do not be modest and say that you are no match to kamal etc, be frank) and name your list of fav actors and actress?
Thanks for the compliment. Being natural and seeming `effortless’ is the height of any performance. You have credited me with that and placed me with two legends. Feels good. Feels great actually. Anyway from them Mohanlal, Paresh Rewalm Nasiruddin Shah, Aamirkhan are very good actors too. Sridevi, Madhu, Manisha in Khamoshi, oflate Tabu never fail to impress

  • R. Vijayalakshmi, Bangalore-86

I like ur acting very much u look like innocent but I think u are not innocent sir I like ur both characters comedy roll and serious roll we kannadigas have brought u up in kannada film industry so my advice is to you is plz don’t act in Tamil films sir in the films be open don’t hide ur love sir be open like uppi the open man sir in ur college days have u loved any one?
Dear venu, you queered it right. I’m pretty innocent but not as innocent as I look?
I’m sorry but your advice not to act in other language doesn’t make sense to me. I’ll keep as per the wished of the director. I have no choice, however well, your idea sounds.
Yes I did. I loved a real pretty girl. Had secret meeting, dates etc. Now she is the mother of two kids. She is my wife.

  • Madhu Mohan, Auckland
Which role do you think was the toughest of all the roles you have performed in your entire film career?
Amruthavasrhini. I had very few lines to speak. The entire communication was to be through eyes and facial expressions only. I must have dubbed for just half a day for that film. The climax scene was so intense I finished up with a deadly headache after the shot. The scene after the accident when I tell the heroin about it had my eyes strained so much I felt empty and exhausted after the scene. Physically, emotionally that was the toughest role.

  • Jagadish, Bangalore
1). Kannada chitrakathegarara bagge nimma  Abhiprayavenu?
Screenplay writing is an art by itself. Though there are so many good writers here specializing in screen format and serving to need is all kinds in audiences need slightly different approach. Some of the younger guys look promising. Let’s wait and watch

2)  Kannadadalli neevu yake itthicheege hechhagi yassashshu kanallilla idakke, karavenu?
Could be because I did too many films. Could be I repeated similar kinds of roles. Could be you expecting a better deal from me. I’m trying to correct all that in forthcoming films.

  • Anand, Bangalore
Why our Kannada artists, producers do not own theaters in Bangalore (like Hyderabad). Do they think negative on future of Kannada cinema? I see only Ravichandran talks boldly and not many.
Ravichandran is one of his kinds. Even I like Ravi’s frank approach.

  • D.S. Prasad, Shikaripur
With which heroin do you enjoyed more and with whom you want to work?
With all of them! (That’s being diplomatic no!) Any heroin who suits the role. No one in particular

  • Smitha S Raj, New York
what made u to join films leaving your engineering field?

We have seen few of your movies in the US and in India, you are a good actor but we need to see you and other good actors and actresses personally in the US like Hindi movie people live on the stage. You are most welcome to stay in Atlanta, thanks and bye.
Nice idea. How about a stage show! We could have it organized if you are serious. With some neat planning we can give you good entertainment, get to know each other and have a good time. Keep me posted.

  • B.L.MohanBabu, Burlington (Iowa) -USA

  • Ganesh Rao, Bangalore
Till date Ur best movie has been America, America, view held by Ur fans. Plz pass ur comments on this
That was a great flick. Box office hit with sensible entertainment. It got me the first state award and it ran for a year! What else can I ask for? Good to know you liked my work in it. In many ways Ramesh like `surya’ of America America.

  • Irshad Ahmed, Bangalore
Why you are migrating again to Tamil films?
Migrating is too strong a word. How about `flirting’ or `tasting’. Right now I’m neck deep in Kannada films to go there seriously.

  • Manju Maglamane, Bangalore

  • Abdul, Nelamangala
In how many films you have worked
About a 100 and odd films in all five language.

  • Raghavendra, Mysore
What do u thinks are the qualities, which have made u a successful ACTOR and hot property in the industry today.
In the industry there are lots of people who use filthy vocabulary what do u used to do to digest such things.
I try to do justice to whatever role I get. I try my best to be co-operative on sets, be punctual and pose no problem of any kind to anyone. Perhaps all this has helped me to have good will in so many in the industry.
I t is quite disgusting to hear property in any kind. But that’s what is life all about. It takes all kinds of people to make the world.

  • Deepthi Ashok, Australia
Nanna hesaru Deepthi.naanu australia dalli 2nd pu oduthidhene. naanu nimma fan!!! nanage nimma movies thumbha ishta. nimma movie "shaapa" illi theatre ge bandhithu.
But can I ask u something??? How come nivu ella movies nallinu love dissapoint paatra maadthira??? Do you like acting in those kinds of movies???
Hi Deepthi. How are Kangaroos and Boomerangs?
These `love disappointed’ character throw in a lot of emotional variety in scenes and it is challenging for an actor to shift from joy to sorrow to sacrifice kind of changes in expression in the same shot. I seem to get these roles because they say I get their idea of audience identifying my face with `sacrificial’ emotions. I should get out of these soon.

  • Anand singh, Bangalore
Are satisfied in your role in kannada films?

  • Girish Prabhu, Bangalore
You have done a very good role in Shaapa. Please continue doing such different roles. How did you feel when Vishnu called you during his role in 'Parva' to get 'acting guidelines' from you?
Thanks. That was a pleasant surprise. It was just a nice gesture from him. He needs no tips from me. He has inspired me so many times before. He is wonderful person for a friend.

  • Srinivas, Bangalore
Whenever I see your Interviews in TV you always talk about Tamil. Do you talk about Kannada whenever you give interviews to Tamil TVs. Myself and few of my friends strongly feel that neevu unda manage eradu bageyutha ideere. And this is reason we have stopped watching your movies and we switch of or change the channel whenever we see you in TV's. I think time has come for you to prove your trustworthiness towards Kannada. Hope I get honest answer.
My god. What an outrageous complaint! Anyway thanks for alerting me, though I’m dead sure I never said anything for this kind of reaction. Stop switching channels; you have no reason to feel so negative about me.

  • Prakash, bangalore
Recently I heard that Superstar Vishnu has consulted you to improve his acting for his forthcoming film PARVA.  What is your opinion about Vishnu, please answer this question, I am a great fan of Vishnu, you and ananthnag and I want to see you and Vishnu in a film.
I would rate Vishuji as an excellent human being, a wonderful friend to have and as you know a fabulous actor. His performance in `Suprabahta’, Nagarahavu are unforgettable. He is a real star in Kannada. I like his walk, his style, his dialogue clarity his sophiscation. I like everything about that man.

  • Jagadish,Balehonnur
why you are not acting like kamalahasan, in 1995 I think another kamalahasan was born in Karnataka but now I so feel that matter. Select good story and avoid some bad film.
Right sir, as you say. Thanks for the feedback.

If you are really in love, it will succeed on its own. Don’t worry.

  • Satish, USA originaly from Belgaum
Why Uttarkarnataka is not represented well in Kannada movies and Television. Our Accent is only used for funny characters not for serious roles...Which make people of north Karnataka to tend more towards Hindi movies for fun and entertainment... And don't forget that all the famous poets are from North karnataka...
I agree with all that you said. Well, we should seriously work towards what you said. In my films of course I take care not to hurt the sentiments of you people. Rest will do so too.

  • Srinivasa, USA
Have you had any formal training in Acting? How do you usually prepare for a role?
No. I guess it is a interplay of my imagination, my experience and my observation skills Which subconsciously tells me to do a role as I play it. Most of roles offered can be played off the cuff but films like Shapa or Amritavarshini need some homework. It is just learning to walk in somebody else’s shoes.

  • Amith, Hassan
what makes you to be so active on & off the screen? I am a great fan of u for that reason.
Thanks. Nice to know that. I would dread to know that I’ M boring on screen even if it is for a second. The only way to keep them interested is to be lively all the time. This special energy seems to come whenever the camera is on.

  • Sudheendra, Bangalore

  • Shyma Gopal, Padubidri
It seems you are happy and content with whatever you have earned and saved!! Further no career ambitions are it?
It is really sad if that is the message I seem to be sending across. Of course I have secret ambitions. You will see them coming true onscreen soon.

  • Guru, Waite Park, Minnesota
We kannadigas ought to do a better job. Don’t you think so? I am an ardent fan of kannada and kannada movies. I make it a point to see recently released kannada movies whenever I visit India. I was utterly disappointed by " KurigaLu Saar KurigaLu" A brilliant director like Babu couldn’t get the best out of you and the troop. This is like making a comedy for the sake of comedy. It is OK to laugh but it will be good to laugh for a reason, right. It seemed to me like Babu thinks any joke is OK as long as it makes people laugh. Should you be acting in those kinds of movies just because a reputed director directs it? Don’t you have a choice?
You just stole words from my mouth. I feel the same way about the film though it is a massive hit here. We are out as a team to give a better comedy in its sequel Kotigalu You must see Shapa and know that I mean well.

  • Pradeep Bellave, Bangalore
Have you watched any of your movies at theatre in full? Any memorable experiences from that?

  • Nandeesh, Bangalore
What is Ur embarrassing moment in Ur cinema career?
As an actor, nothing really embarrassing so far. Of course the bad films you are a part of embarrass you all the time.

  • Arathi.C, Bangalore
What is your opinion about Upendra's films & his way of thinking? Don’t feel bad b'coz I am asking about Upendra, I am a great fan of him, you are really very smart. I loved your acting in Maduve,Chandramukhi Pranasakhi etc.,.Please don't forget to get me Upendra's number. You can mail to my E-mail id(Look at my mail id I have included Uppi"s name with my name)
WOW. Upi will be delighted with a fan like you.I think he is a very brave and original thinker.I like his boldness .Sometimes even though it appears crude ,his remarks on the system are honest.I don’t know his ID. Sorry I couldn’t help you with that.

  • Vijaya, Bangalore
You are really a wonderful actor, but please are careful when you choose the roles. Don’t be hasty in taking them up. Our wishes are there with you always.

  • Rahashekhar, Gokak: Dist: Belgaum
Your performance in 'Snehaloka' was superb. Why doesn’t U try some negative roles?
Sure. Anything you like. After the audience’s entire wish is my command.

  • S.R.Vijay, Bangalore
Why your recently released films are not running successfully except kurigalu sir kurigalu...any reasons.
We are doing “Ninne Preetisuve” together. Probably too many films releasing without gap could be the main reason.

  • Raghu, New York
Why is the Kannada film industry so pathetic, what is the reason? how  do u see  being in the industry, what is it every kannadiga has to do?.
Wish I knew! If every Kannadigas goes out of his way to promote sensible entertainers and throw out trash mercilessly irrespective of names involved we might be better of. Anyway things are brightening up slightly now.

  • Venkateswara S, Bangalore
Being an engineer what really impressed you to enter film land.
The creativity, behind the whole damn affair.

  • Srinivas Ragavendra, Bangalore
How was your high school days and which master\madam you liked till now
It was quiet, successful academically, non-mischief kind of life. It gave me a lot confidence, which sees me thro even now. I remember one lady K.M who first got me on stage to speak and encouraged oratory in me,

  • Kannadahudga, Bangalore
Why cant u produces a good and creative movie. Because almost all coming movies are of same theme and boring subject
You guy’s produce, I’ll stick to acting. Producing is another ballgame.

  • Janardhan, Bangalore
What is Ur reaction for the box-office failure of the movie shaapa, which was a true classical movie after 'Amruthavarshini'. What could be the reason for the box-office failure of Shaapa?
People don’t want a hero failing all the time. It is too depressing a film for our audience.

  • Naren, Miami, US
You are damn good in comedy than in those scarifying roles. Why don't you demand comedy roles as you are in a good shape in the industry now? You can have a command too. Because in some of the serious or emotional scenes, you end overacting and its hard for viewers like us to digest it. First few times it’s OK, but afterwards it becomes boring.
Last but not least, I would suggest you to make your mustache less dense. Because too dense mustache doesn't suit your physique.
Really? Did you watch `Shaapa’? What you see on screen could not be entirely by my choice. I have to consider what the director wants from me. Some directors prefer slight overdose to have impact on audience. I just follow their direction. Whether I like it or not.  As you say I will try to concentrate on comedy more. Regarding the mouch I don’t mind shaving it off totally too if it pleases the audience. I have no personal attachment to it.

  • Sandhya, Houston, USA

  • Usha bhat, Miami, USA
Mr. Ramesh I like your acting.  I would like to know whether you are an original Kannada actor or you are from different linguistic origin? I am just asking this out of curiosity.  Thank you.
I’m 100% filtered, distilled, uncorrupted Kannada actor. I have lived all my life in Karnataka from 4th standard onwards through my parents come from Tanjore.

  • Vanishree, Rajajinagar, Bangalore
Why haven't u come out with any stories after "Hoomale". When is u directing a movie for us? I’m very sure that the movie directed by you will be a class one.
You really boosted my confidence. I’ll definitely fulfill your expectations of me as director if and when I direct a film.

  • Mukesh, Davengere
What is your dream in film land and are you regretting the stardom you have been given?
My dream is to leave behind immortal films at least a few. Stardom is highly exciting and enjoyable. Why regret?

  • Rohith.R, Bangalore
Why don't you stop doing films like Premi no.1 and return to your original roles as a feel good and sensitive hero? I feel your complete potential has not been tapped, and you
are yet to perform your best role, which will be remembered for several years to come?
I try all kind of films. Some are hits. Some flop. But I try to do justice to whatever role I accept however silly and stupid. These are professional hazards, which comes as a package deal. It is hard to miss out on them, considering the whole picture of success here.

Hi Ramesha? How are you? For me you are a good neighbor. If you remember that you were staying near S.K.C.H. (Sri Kumaran Childrens School) before you became actor that’s good. I know your Brothers (Suresh, Sridhar& your Sister). My only Question why you are only Concentrating on love story try to do differently? I am also interested in directing your film with a different story.
Please give you personal ID. Thank you Ramesha.G.

An engineer by qualification, though you have very good talent, looks like you have lost control on your selection of movies Viz., PremiNo.1, Hu anthiya...etc. added to it, a good one like Shapa gets sandwithced in between such bad films. At this stage do you regret on your selection of movies or profession you chose to live with??
Sandwich! That’s a nice description. With an excellent filling was `Shaapa’ with a not so good bread slices. Next time you’ll get a whole tasty sandwich of 3 films

I wish you all the best for this year and many coming years. I had written about releasing Kannada movies outside Karnataka like Hyderabad, Chennai, and Mumbai to Jaggesh also. Why don't you plan for at least something like Kannada fest and give an opportunity to watch good Kannada movies here. Hope you consider my request.
Do you have a reasonable number of kannadiga in touch to fill a theatre? If so, it would be very nice to arrange a show for them there. Keep in touch with K.M. Veeresh of chitraloka.com to move things forward in this direction.

What is your opinion about dubbing from other state films?  This is not good for Kannada film industries. Why don't you protest? R u acting any dubbing film? Do you know the reason why we are not able to get latest Kannada film videocassettes like Hindi, Telugu.etc?
No. We do not allow other language film dubbed in Kannada as a policy. Even a Kannada version of Hindi Ramanya was put aside. Latest Kannada films must be in the market. Please try again.

Make movies like Mr. Mani does!
