Reknowned
stage and film actor Shimoga Venkatesh died in the early
hours of Sunday morning at Shimoba. Sixty year old Shimoga
Venkatesh was involved in the new theatre movement of
the seventies and eighties and had worked in many art
ahd commercial films directed by many famous film directors.
Sixty year old Shimoga is survived by two sons.
When
the Kannada theatre movement was taking a different path,
Shimoga Venkatesh did take interest to work in modern
plays. He had zealously worked for promoting the modern
theatre movement in his native town of Shimoga also. Bhutto,
Hamlet, Kattale Belaku, Nammolagobba Najookaiah, Aaspota,
Tughalaq, Mooru Kaasina Aata, Mruchakatika, Macbeth, Hayavadana,
Oedipas, Uttama Prabhutwa lolalotte were some of his plays.
He was associated with the popular theatre groups like
Benaka, Rangasampada, and Nataranga of Bangalore.
Venkatesh had also acted in Tele serials like Namma Nammlli, Bhagya,
Sankranti, Aaghagata, Kevudana Madaiah Tande, Silli Lallli and Pa.Pa.
Pandu.
He had acted in
artistic and commercial films which gave him a slot for him as a character
artist. Chomanadudi, Kanneshwara Rama, Kittu Puttu, Mysoora Mallige,
Beli Hendti, Undu Hoda-Kondu Honda, Kotreshi Kanasu, Chapala Chennigaraya,
Gandharva, Sacchi, Munnudi, Shruti, Nee Midida Shruti, Accident and
SP Bhargavi were some of his films.
He associated
with T.N. Seetharam, T.S. Nagabharana, Girish Karnad,
M.S. Satyu and Dwarakish and others.
Noted film producer and director Dwarakish condoled the death of his
friend Shimoga Venkatesh whom he described as a good actor and good
friend.

veteran actor Shimoga Venkatesh.
