The
Karnataka Government assured of all help for the building
of KFCC and invited the Kannada film industry to discuss
about the various issues (including the development of
theatre activity) put forth on Wednesday, the Makara Sankranthi
day. The occasion was stone laying foundation function
at the crescent road demolished place of KFCC for the
new building. The Karnataka Home Minister Mallikarjuna
Kharge, Public Works Department Minister Dharam Singh,
Information minister Kagodu Thimmappa, Urban development
minister Kumar Bangarappa joined hands with Smt.Parvathamma
Rajkumar, Ambarish, Shashikumar (all of a sudden present)
MP’s, Shivrajkumar, B.Saroja Devi, Jayanthi, Rajendra
Singh Babu, MLC’s Mu Ma Chandru, Umasri, KFIDC chairman
Vasu, KFCC President S.Ramesh in quick Guddali Pooja and
lighting the lamp celebration.
Rs.10
lakh first installment cheque was paid to building architect
Tintoo and contractor Rajan at this function by the KFCC.
It was a day
long of speeches and besides bringing to light the problems
of the Kannada film industry. The ministers in their speeches
shifted the responsibilities to Karnataka Chief Minister
S.M.Krishna when the grant for new building issue was
raised. None of the ministers present could make a promise
about the grant asked by the President of Karnataka Film
Chamber of Commerce S.Ramesh in his address. The KFCC
President in his speech also sought the Rs.5 lakh subsidy
for all Kannada films besides the Rs.10 lakh given to
20 quality Kannada films every year. Making use of the
platform he has created S.Ramesh efficiently used it for
highlighting the industry problems too. He stressed on
the need of single window system urgently.
Among
the ministers the senior ministers Kharge, Dharam Singh
and Kagodu Thimmappa were in fine mood. Kharge called
for multiplex theatre in Bangalore like in Mumbai, Delhi,
Pune and Ahmedabad. He also advised the KFCC to talk to
union minister Ananthkumar to get loan from HUDCO. Ramesh
is a clever man and we have meet his demands otherwise
he will tom -tom one day is what Dharma Singh disclosed.
Kagodu on the other hand took a little more time than
his three other colleagues and quoted the Dinakar Desau
quotation (Haalu Akki) and very cleverly batted the demand
of KFCC for grant to construct new building. The information
minister made a timely speech and asked the film -makers
to give up ‘pistol’ and violence in films. The Urban Development
Minister and also an actor Kumar Bangarappa brought to
the light that there are various means to acquire funds
for the KFCC building. The Rs.3.5 crore is not a big task
for us in the film industry. He quoted the example of
‘Kanija Bhavan’ coming up in similar line.
S.V.Rajendra
Singh Babu, the President of Kannada Film Directors Association
expressed the need to have film policy for once in five
years. We have been asking for single window since 20
years and successive governments are not interested in
doing anything. To promote the industry the film industry
is provided benefits like room and free shooting permissions
elsewhere. Why not in Karnataka. To develop the Kannada
language the State government should take a theatre in
major state capitals and allow the Kannada films to screen.
The State government take interest in facilitate the Tamil
films screening in the State then why can’t they see Kannada
films are screened in other parts asked S.V.Rajendra Singh
Babu.
Sa. Ra. Govindu,
B.Saroja Devi, Mu.Ma.Chandru, Umasri, Kannada Film Producers
Association President Basanthkumar Patil also spoke on
the occasion. S.A.Chinne Gowda proposed a vote of thanks.
The special
attraction on the morning function was the ‘Dollu Munitha’
troupe that came from Shimoga.
