S.M. Krishna Chief Minister of Karnataka called upon NRI Kannada community to work unitedly to espouse the cause of Kannada and Culture in North America. Difference of opinions does surface but Kannadigas need to sort out the issues "in a closed doored meeting like how UNO thinks and acts!"

He was addressing a gathering of Kannadigas from different parts of the world in Bangalore today. The meeting "Sammilana" was organized by AKKA (America Kannada Kootagala Agara) in Raveendra Kalakshetra. The function was organized to felicitate all artists, singers and Karnataka Government Officials who participated in Detroit World Conference Aug 30- Sept 1, 2002.

`I have noticed few reports in some sections of the Press about the controversy rallying around AKKA and World Kannada Conference. This feud delivers nothing good to any of us. Kannada leaders emerging out of NRI Community should help to sort of issues among themselves and focus on taking the Glory of Karnataka and India to greater heights’ said Chief Minister S.M. Krishna.

Prof. Baragooru Ramachandrappa said with a sad note about `Castesim’ among Kannadigas in USA `We must take a path of Kannada as a Caste and not on the lines of particular caste and groups. However he profusely congratulated all Kannadigas who are responsible in propagating Karnataka and Kannada in foreign soil. He made a special mention about the success of World Kannada Conference held in Detroit. Mr. Amarnath Gowda and his able team has done a wonderful job in organizing a mammoth convention in Detroit to keep Kannada consciousness alive and kicking in US’ said Baraguru.

Mr. S.M .Krishna later felicitated Mr. Amarnath Gowda, Dr. Kudur Murali and Dr. Halekote Vishwamitra and Mr. K. M. Krishna Murthy (All office bearers AKKA) Mr. C. S Kedar, Mr. Somashekhar (Officials in Department of  Kannada Culture, Government of Karnataka) Ratnamala Prakash, B. K. Sumitra, Y. K. Muddu Krishna, Malati, Kappanna, Nagaraj Havaldar, Nandini Alva, Padmini Devi (All artists and singers) Mr. Raghavendra Raju  (Karnataka Farmers Association) Mr. Kumbhasi Srinivasa Bhat (Editor , Detroit  Conference Commemorative volume) Mr. Maa . Krishnappa (Pampa Kannada Koota) Ramesh Gowda, Satyanaraya Rao.

Smt. Amarnath Gowda, Smt, Halekote Vishwamitra and Smt. Kudur Murali who are representing Kannada women groups from US were also felicitated by S.M. Krishna.
Earlier function offered some enchanting music by Y.K. Muddu Krihna, Malati, B.K. Sumitra, Ratnamala Prakash and Appagere Thimmaragu and team.

One should wonder why the Kannada Cini artists who had gone to Detroit was not seen in this function.

A well organized and well attended function appeared like an exercise in reenacting Detroit Conference in Bangalore.

Mr. V.M Kumara Swamy (who claims to be still an office bearer of AKKA) and Hanasoge Ashwatnarayana President Triveni Kannada Koota of New Jersy in a press conference on 16 Dec. had leveled various charges against AKKA President and other office bearers. They had alleged that the present team is unconstitutional and even extra constitutional. The dueo had even threatened to write a letter to Chief Minister S.M. Krishna requesting to him not allow the above function to happen in Bangalore.
