SHOW TIMING CHANGE
Is It Going To Fill Theatres?

Report by - CNB                                                                         Date -28th February 2003

In the past few years the dual stand of the government has been in practice as for as show timing of theatres are concerned. All theatres showing Kannada films are in the pattern of 10, 1, 4.30 7.30 timing. Where as the non kannada films screening theatres have been maintaining the 11.30 3.30, 6.30 and 9.30 pattern despite of the Bangalore police passing orders not to keep such timings.

The audiences were put in confusion in this dual timing system. The Kannada film producers after receiving a few years of jolt have now asked the Government to introduce the old system (now maintained by non Kannada theatres). The government has given its nod and now the earlier timing system would come in to practice from April this year says the sources at Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce to Chitraloka mega portal.

According to industry sources the new timing structure would be beneficial to producer of Kannada films. The theory goes like this. Those who come for morning show at 11.30 show are free even on Sundays. For 3.30 shows there is no hassle because the transportation is also very easy. It is like so for 6.30 pm show and it is a beautiful timing for all office going people. 9.30 of course is a pleasant timing provided the audiences get public transport at 12 am to reach their houses. Yet another industry person was of the opinion that so far two shows in the earlier structure was not yielding returns. Now with the new system everything would be fine is what Kannada film industry source say.

Now it is up to the police department. When the police department has not controlled in the previous occasion when two types of theatre timings were maintained how could they poke their nose now asks another person in the industry. The change in timing is because of burglary, snatching and attacks in the early hours after 9.30 show.

Yet another man with acerbic tongue says when the Government has given licenses to open Bars and Pubs throughout the day why should they restrict theatre timing he asks.

What is needed is good collection at the theatres.
