The
October 11 meeting called by the Karnataka Film Chamber
of Commerce to hammer out a solution to the present crisis
in the Kannada film industry may not take place as scheduled.
The Kannada film producers association said that they
would not be attending the meeting as has been promised
by them. The KPA had boycotted the earlier meeting called
in by the film chamber on October 5 also.
According to
H.D. Gangaraj, President of the KFCC said that a letter written
by the Kannada film producers association was received on Tuesday
morning in which they had communicated their unwillingness to attend
the meeting.
Gangaraj
said that he contacted Sandesh Nagaraj, President of the
KPA immediately, but he had said that a decision has been
taken by his organization not to attend the meeting. Some
producers requesting anonymity however said that they
are unwilling to talk to the present executive committee
members whose term is expiring on October 27.
The KFCC elections
are to be held on October 28 and in all probability an exhibitor
will be taking over as the new President. Mr. K.V. Chandrashekhar
of the Veeresha theatre who is known to be sympathetic to the film
producer is the front runner among the probable winners for the
President's post.
The
producers who had a late night meeting on Tuesday have
decided to hold their decision of not allowing permission
to start new films for another month will only talk to
the new executive committee of the KFCC, it is learnt.
Some producers including Sandesh Nagaraj had met Rebel
Star Ambareesh separately who had advised them to have
talks with a group of stars.
Ambareesh
and Vishnuvardhan had authorized Upendra and Sudeep to
discuss the matter with the producers separately in a
five star hotel. It is believed both Upendra and Sudeep
agreed to take up their grievances with other stars and
expressed their willingness to co-operate with the producers.
Ambareesh is
believed to have suggested that the producers should also speak
to the cine workers association leaders separately to focus on their
problems and explain their position with a view to get their co-operation.
The producers
have struck to their decision not to start production activities
of new films for at least one month.
