Off
late the release of non Kannada films in Karnataka is
not on Friday. Sometime it is Thursday and Wednesday prior
to release of a fresh Kannada film. Although there is
no rule so and so film should be released on Friday only
the release on Friday has become permanent all over.
When
non Kannada films appear before Friday this has a strong
impact on Kannada films. Look at ‘Nenu Naannu’ starring
Nagarjuna and Arathi Agarwal. This was released on Wednesday
– 7th April in Karnataka.
Baffled
with this when checked with some of the industry bigwigs
it was discovered that such practice has a strong impact
on the collection of Kannada films that are releasing
two days later that is Friday.
In
a place like Bangalore this is quite possible. The good
quality films of non Kannada create a talk in just one
day and we in Bangalore are so liberal that we see only
quality without giving prominence to language.
On
the pretext of good days the films releasing is universal.
Chiranjeevi’s ‘Anji’ got special permission to release
before Friday. But the Karnataka Film Chamber is not supposed
to give very often such permission says former KFCC President
K.V.Chandrasekhar. ‘Nennu Naane’ is concerned the proposal
was not placed before KFCC. Now that the KFCC is not collecting
Rs.25000 for four prints release the rule should be tightened.
So far KFCC collected Rs.10 lakhs up to January 2004 from
non Kannada at the time of release. The pocket money of
the audience definitely not comes to Kannada films agrees
Chandrasekhar. He is left with the option of seeing a
fresh film of any language even without waiting for the
release of Kannada film. Whenever the Kannada films get
affected the system has to be put in order vouches Chandrasekhar.
We
should not allow such releases at any cost. There is no
asker or teller. No discipline for other language film
releases. For our problems in Kannada the producers and
even the people also should come forward says Basanthkumar
Patil the president of Kannada film Producers association.
Thomas
D’Souza who represents the exhibitors association firmly
says there is no rule for release of films. Some believe
on astrology and so they have to come on so and so day.
Chiranjeevi’s ‘Anji’ was released on Wednesday and now
‘Nennu Naane’ of Nagarjuna. There is no danger to Kannada
films from such earlier releases says Thomas. People see
only good films and no one can draw away from good films.
When the films are good the audience comes to it irrespective
of release day.
