“Shivaraj
Kumar "Santha' directed by Murali Mohan and produced
by Company films is a must see for the hatrick hero's
fans. In this film they can see their favourite star in
different shades as an action hero, as a performer and
also as a lover boy who is prepared to do anything for
his lover. The film has a right blend of enjoyable commercial
elements like action, sentiment and the love angle which
clearly distinguishes the film from the recently released
sickle and sword gangster films. Yes, Shivaraj has played
an underworld don's film as he did in films like `OM'
and `Jogi'. But what is significant is that he has really
worked hard for this film.
Murali Mohan, the film's director had claimed that the film would
have a different treatment and his claims are substantiated fully
in the sequences of the film. Mohan has crafted this film in a distinct
fashion which makes it appealing.
Though the story of the film is not fresh and is like any run of
the mill film, it is the narration and performances of the artists
that stands out. Producers Srinivas and Srikanth had to be congratulated
for their efforts.
Santha belongs to a poor family and his only desire is to get good
medical treatment to his mentally challenged sisters and look after
his mother. And this innocent, honest and hardworking youngster
gets into loving a simple girl in the neighborhood. And that engineers
some problems for him and he is foisted with a false case. As though
this was not enough, he is also made to serve a jail sentence for
assaulting a don. And he is forced to take up the mantle of a rival
don. What happens next is best to be seen on the screen.
Shivaraj Kumar and Komal have done their best in the film and in
a few sequences there is a competition to get the better
of the other. Arati Chabbria has a few dances, but she
is yet to learn the basics of acting. Sree Devika is slightly
better. The technical work of the film is slightly better
with cameraman Seetharam showing his mettle in many sequences.
Guru Kiran's music composition comes to life in the "Shiva
Shiva' and the pathos song. `Santha' will be mainly remembered
due to the performance of Shivaraj Kumar and Komal.
