Vani JayaramHighly talented singer Vanijayaram has strongly recommended for inclusion of music in the text books to the rulers of this country. It is such a coincidence that the day Vanijayram recommended for this in the afternoon at the Sadhana Music School 3rd branch inauguration Jayanagar almost the same time the education minister of Karnataka government announced the idea of including music in the textbook for students from standard one.

This is called the great coincidence.

The unforgettable Bolere Pappi hara… fame Vani Jayaram  has maintained her voice in tact and declares that there is not even 0.05 percent change in her voice. She remembered top Kannada songs and one by one changing ragas quickly recited. That was really a fine afternoon with singer par excellence. Thanks to Manjula Gururaj for creating a chat with this ace singer.

However Vanijayaram maintaining still refreshing voice was available for a brief chat at Sadhana Music School in Jayanagar. Her husband Jayaram was also sitting next to her when she spoke to media.

  • You always look for right vibrations….
That’s right. Even before film singing for ‘Guddi’ I was looking for right atmosphere. I was singing bhajans with Sri Purushottam Jalota. My mentor Vasanth Desai always used to tell good music is soul stirring and we should not give up our rich cultural heritage. Music is the essence in life. In the days of stress, violence, bloodshed music converts the wrong minds. A diversion towards good things avoids bad atmosphere coming up.

  • Do you have any observation to the present day of music?
I don’t to pass any judgment. Any music should not spoil our heritage and culture. It is so rich in our country. I would only request the present genre not to degrade or diminish our culture.

  • No films singing what are you up to these days?
I am giving concerts in many places traveling abroad. I do embroidery, cook, compose, and write lyrics. 24 hours is not enough for me.

  • Do you remember Kannada songs often…..
I don’t mind recollecting the lines….. Karuneya thoreya…., Besuge Besuge….., Bava Emba Hoovu Arali….., Kanasalu Neene Manasalu Neene, Sadha Kannalli…., Eneno Aase….

  • The English song you sung…..
That was for great director Puttannaji in Bili Hendthi in 1981. Happiest moments…..

  • With such a beautiful voice why are you not singing in films?
The fault lies in the industry.

  • The industry says you are expensive?
That’s a joke. Ask D.V.Sudheendragaru who is sitting here. (Sudheendra replied that Vanijayaram is very nominal) I have been always reasonable. Those who are singing today are charging 15 times more than my remuneration.

  • Any touching moment……
I was singing bhajans for Sri Ramnath Goenka’s 100th birth anniversary. Smt.Saroja Goenka was there and I started with a Marwari song. Later prominent journalist Kuldip Nayyar came to me and told that he is moved by my music. That was a great compliment for me.

  • How were your days?
There used to be 15 monitors and the first one was finally used to get approval.

  • What do you say about the music overtaking the lyrics?
There were 150 violins when I was singing for Madan Mohanji in our golden period of 1973 to 1985. But instruments never used to drown the words.

  • Do you run any schools?
I have such ideas to teach my kind of Bhajans. There are lots of offers. From UP, Delhi, Mumbai and others places there are offers. I do attend workshops.

  • What is the secret of your success?
God’s grace, discipline, not attending party, deeply soaked in discipline and values kept my voice like this.

  • Your food habit…..
There is no breakfast. I eat lot of fruits. I learnt this practice from my husband. What I eat for lunch remains the same for dinner.
