In
response to the interview published of his in mega portal
Chitraloka, here is what B.Suresh has something more
to add.
I
read my interview. First of all, I should thank you
and your team for taking so much of interest in Television
Industry. Though untruly termed as small screen industry,
it is the big industry. We have spoken in length about
the same.
Mr
Veeresh, No TV producer is given membership of IMRB,
in turn TAM/INTAM. It is given only to Ad agencies and
marketing agencies. TRP is required for the advertiser
alone. Producer, though dependent on Ad revenue is least
bothered about TRP. But he requires the same when he
wants to sell the free commercial time of his programme.
In case a producer is doing a commissioned programme
for a channel, then the producer need not bother about
the TRP's.
He
should only think of doing a popular programme. When
the producer forgets about `quality' programming and
starts thinking of easy money then he is bound to get
into the problems of early stoppage of programme. In
most of the cases that we are seeing the second fact
is true. These producers grumble later about various
unrelated details, which in the interest of industry
and business will not have any value. These producers
should first be educated about the market and the machinery
that is giving them money for programming. Then we will
not have all those doubts.
I
would like to further explain on the method of finding
TRP's. It is done by people's meter, which is an electronic
gadget placed in 400 selected homes of a city. The placement
of meters by itself is unscientific. Because a Kannada
programme's rating is being evaluated by the meter placed
in the homes of non kannadiga's or upper class homes,
where kannada is of least interest. It is like judging
the popularity of a serial like `Mayamriga' in Ulsoor
or
Shivajinagar
where kannada is a minority's language.
