director of 31 Kannada films in the career of 14 years
S.Narayan a multifaceted personality (acting, lyrics,
music, story, dialogues, screenplay, direction, producing
and distribution) is launcing his son Pankaj from 'Veeru'
Kannada film. He has made this announcement recently at
Malleswaram Club. After 'Varsha' he is back again after
8 months of self imposed exile. 'I would miss with no
film this year'. That is the main reason why I am launching
'Veeru' a quickie says Narayan.
This
is not a children film Narayan clarified in the beginning
itself. Although my son is doing a pivotal role the vital
role is done by top actress Umashri. In the four months
gap that has existed due to various reasons I am launching
this film. My son studying at 8 th standard would not
bunk the classes to attend the shooting. In the October
Dasara holidays of 15 days he is attending the shooting
says Narayan.
- Why
is he launching his son with three projects ready to go on the
floors?
 As
you all know I made thorough search for new talents to launch
a Kannada film under my home banner with 14 fresh talents
(that is to synchronise with the number of years of his
stay in Kannada filmdom). One guy was almost selected, the
photo session was also over. Suddenly the boy's father spoke
very badly. He told me I have to come to his house for any
talks and he would not send his son outside. I was taken
aback. How can I do a film with such conditions? By this
time I had incurred Rs.15 lakhs of expenditure on the project.
The rest of the cast selection was over, the location hunt
was completed and it is all set to go on the floors was
the situation. I have dropped the whole idea of that film
with new cast. The project is still having breath but time
should come, the hero has to be selected afresh now. I have
sat on this subject for a long time and eight rounds of
discussion was held to arrive at the final project. Had
this been finalised the shooting would have been half finished
says Narayan.
 At
this situation I sent words to the action hero to accept
for a commercial subject of mine. I wanted a commercial
hero for September, October and November. Sir Nanage Guru,
Avaru Karedhre Naanu Illa Annakke Agatha? Yavag Bekadru
ready was the initial answer I got through my manager.
I sent my manager after a few days to decide on the remuneration.
I did not want that hero to show sympathy because I have
introduced him on silver screen. On return my manager
gave a horrible news. The action hero is free only after
2007 April. What should I do at this situation?
The
pain from these two incidents turned as experience for
me in life (Novugalu Anubava thandu kottithu).
In
these three months I gave a revised thought to my two
years old story 'Veeru'. This is not a regular film. No
hero, heroine duet and action. The emotions and reality
in addition to holding a mirror to the happenings in the
society forms the main elements of the film. Umasri is
playing the lead role. Yesu Prakash Heggade of Ninasam,
Asharani also play supporting roles.
Mr
Narayan, you say it is a different film. What is it?
We
are touching on the new issues, not go out from reality
and 'Sahajathe'. The entire film will be shot in one location.
Umasri is in emotional role. We are using the village
accent Kannada of old Mysore.
What
is the budget of the film?
I
never arrive at the budget and make films.
Are
you releasing this film?
I
am ready for that. I am already a maker. Except Umasri
rest of the artistes are new ones here.
Your
son has to bunk the classes?
I
am not for my son to bunk the classes. 14 days holiday
is there in next month. He has to take part in 18 days
shooting.
Comedy
is the main forte in all your films. What about in this?
Comedy
that is real stitched inside the narration is what you
could find.
