The
highly respected film personality from Karnataka K.C.N.Chandrasekhar
feels very fortunate for the developments taking place
at the South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce in his second
term as President. He was President of SIFCC four years
ago also.
He spoke to this correspondent on the progress and objectives
on hand of SIFCC at Rejoyz Digital Auditorium in Bangalore
on Thursday evening.
Excerpts of an interview with K.C.N.Chandrasekhar:
What is the development at the SIFCC
after you have taken over as President for the second
term?
The new building of South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce
at Anna Salai is coming up at a cost of Rs.8 crores. A
small litigation was sorted out. The stone laying function
was held along with another important function of A.V.Meyappan's
centenary. Some of the internal problems have been sorted
out. The government headed by respected leader Karunanidhi
has done lot of good things to the Tamil Film industry.
What is it?
Without the industry asking for it he has reduced the
high taxes and applied the principles of Karnataka government
in giving 100 percent entertainment tax exemption to Tamil
films.
Any notable problem has been solved?
The case related to actress Jyothika was solved with joint
effort. She declined to appear after taking remuneration
for a film.
The issue of treatment of animals
has not come up?
That is the major issue worked out at SIFCC I wanted to
tell you first. After the Mumbai High Court order this
has become very tough. All film makers were insisted on
obtaining the clearance certificate from Animal Welfare
Board in Delhi or Chennai before going to the censor board.
When the union minister said something else a gap existed.
At this time SIFCC asked for Forest department to intervene
and solve the gap so that the censor is at ease to give
certificate. Now everything has been eased out. Film Federation
of India President Boney Kapoor also joined hands in solving
this crisis.
When is the new building coming
up?
The foundation has been laid when the Centenary of AVM
was held. Long time back A.V.Meyappan had dubbed a Kannada
film 'Raja Harischandra' to Tamil and made lot of money.
He has told this in his biography. The seniors from all
states came for this memorable function. We have Rs.5
crores in SIFCC and require some more to meet the Rs.8
crore plan of the building.
Is there any placement for KFCC
in SIFCC building?
Yes. Each of the Southern states would get 1200 sq feet
of space. Sneha Kannada Sangha headed by Ramados is looking
after Kannada activities in Chennai.
What is the tribute part for the
elders at SIFCC?
All prominent personalities from South India would find
a place. Dr.Rajkumar, B.R.Panthulu and H.M.Reddy statues
from Karnataka are likely to come up. Likewise from Tamil
films T.S.Sundaram, AVM and SS Vaasan, from Andhra Pradesh
Nagi Reddy, NTR, the names suggested by Kerala Film Chamber
of Commerce the statues would be erected.
The SIFCC meetings take place in
other states also?
In my regime so far (I have two months time left) the
meeting was held in all the parts of the South India.
In Karnataka at Mysore the SIFCC meeting was held. We
discussed about the piracy troubling the film producers.
One senior producer Bhasker has quoted the best hospitality
has come from Karnataka for SIFCC members.
