Wishing
you all Happy Deepavali I am back again.
I
remember each and every incidents of my husband Dr.Rajkumar
films. I was reading the novels and I used to join others
in deciding how the role should be for Rajkumar avaru.
'Yudda'
was supposed to go on the floors under the direction of
S.V.Rajendra Singh Babu. There is a journalist role in
that story. Babu suggested the name of Ambarish for that
small role. We decided against Ambarish doing that small
role. But what was in the mind of Rajkumar was that whether
it is Ambarish, Vishnuvardhana or Ananthnag it should
be a parallel role. Then we should invite such artistes.
For that small journalist role a female character was
decided. At the discussion point the issue of hero marrying
the heroine was not approved by Singh Babu. He was hell bent
on his version. I was not ready to accept his version.
A producer will also be having a concept and the final
change should be according to my opinion as I invest I
said. Babu again said it is not like that in the story.
I said we will change the story. He was not prepared.
Then I said let us be friends. Now the same subject cannot
be done. Story is different and film is different. A story
is read individually but not a cinema. It should be done
for the general acceptance. Now in many of the films that
concept has come and gone.
In
fact I had quarreled with Vijaya Sasajur once. When 'Adhe
Kannu' was accepted he said why such films should be done.
There is no ruling that all films should be liked in the
similar way by all I argued with him. The laxities everyone
will be having. You might be having inferiority complex
more than Rajkumar I said. Why are you telling like this
in front of my wife – he was perplexed.
We
should not rake up certain issues. For Sri Basaveshwara
it is said he has two wives. But in stage plays we never
showed Sri Basaveshwara having two wives. Unless Mathe
Mahadevi came and told me I did not know that aspect.
Not many people know about it. One should talk about the
achievements and greatness of such a personality not the
other things.
'Hennu
Makkalannu Balasikondu Amele Doolu Kodavidha Haage Kodavabeku'
(we should use the female and then discard them as dust)
dialogue in 'Dhaari Thappida Maga' created ripples. Many
people said Rajkumar should not have uttered that dialogue.
It is a role saying that. But people were not convinced.
In 'Nyayave Devaru' in the first scene of marriage was
not liked. That film did not do well.
We
have done 206 subjects for Dr.Rajkumar. There were lots
of restrictions too. Rajkumar should not look at other
females, not smoke, drink etc. Keeping all this in mind
we should arrive at the subjects. Looking at all these
restrictions my first son Shivanna says that I should
not poke in to his subjects. That is mainly because he
had in mind that I would shape him in the similar way
of my husband. I told him once – 'I wanted to see you
stand firm that's why I have done three films' – giving
good subjects I made you to earn the position of Hat Trick.
Your father had no education. You have education, now
you can chose subjects of your choice I explained him
later.
The
days were different in the past. Alanahalli Krishna narrated
the subject of 'Bhujangayyana Dashavathara' to me. The
protagonist in the film would develop contact with another
girl because his wife is shrew. I said it is not possible
for Rajkumar to do that role. When the wife is hot tempered
this is what happens he told me. I brought to his notice
the life story of Sri Thukaram. Even his wife was also
like that but he did not get married again. Had he done
like that he would not have seen Thukaram. But Alanahalli
said Thukaram is different and this concept is different.
But Rajkumar is one he cannot do this role I said straight
to his face.
The
change of roles what the audiences on screen is also not
compatible for them. The sister role or heroine role for
Rajkumar was selected carefully. When Leelavathi was selected
as sister of Rajkumar in 'Vatsalyamayee' it was not taken
by the audience. When 'Premamayee' was done she was sister
in law. Even that was also not lapped up by the audience.
This
practice is there only in Kannada it seems. In Tamil actress
Ambika acted as heroine opposite Shivaji Ganeshan and
also with his son Prabhu.
We
cannot do films according to our whims and fancies. Because
it is they – audience who see the film and it should be
prepared well for them at any cost.
UNFORGETTABLE
– Sarvagna Vachana comes to my mind – Each one in life
learns either by reading, looking or by hearing. Such
people behavior is good. When you give up I am everything
and think you or we then there is nothing like that.
See
you next Tuesday. Namasthe.
