I
am the architect of my growth. I will be remembering this
always. Each one has to do his work for his own progress.
It is a wrong concept that others would help in my progress.
If you have to climb the ladder of success you have to
do it on your own. It is like that when you fall down.
The caste factor would not come to help.
My husband Rajkumar Avaru was following one ideology.
That is not to participate in our community functions.
When someone used to ask him what is your caste? His reply
was 'I am Kalavidara Jaathi' (artiste caste). There was
no limit for attending the functions. All caste marriages
we have attended from our family.
With no reservations or aversions how did Rajkumar stayed
in the 51 years of Kannada film industry? It is not right
to trumpet ourselves. But when one stands outside and
look at it he would find so many. How many producers,
artistes, technicians, distributors and exhibitors reached
the comfort zone because of Rajkumar there is no limit
for it. Rising from scratch is not all that easy for us
also. When one film failed how he used to stand by that
producer no one knows.
But look at today's situation. The one who is charging
Rs.25000 today is charging Rs.2 lakhs tomorrow. It increases
in multifold. For this hike a producer is responsible.
It
is not possible to think united we stand. 50 percent of
them are out from the association. There are reasons for
this. When a producer invests his money he will be having
a sort of fear. Like in earlier days when he draws money
from the distributor he has the responsibility of giving
the cinema to that distributor. Now no one knows from
where the money comes. In the name of area the money drawn
goes helter shelter. A producer tightens his hands with
no proper financial management.
Each one should do the work he knows. Producer becomes
a distributor. Long time ago former minister Nanaiah said
'Onion and Garlic' sellers have become producers. He has
said it right. When you raise money from various places
and give the money in excess for work done what is the
point. In addition to it razor, dagger, long, bloodshed
cinemas come up. After all such when we look back it is
our mistake hard to digest.
If a producer is gutsy he will come up strong. We have
come up like that. What is happening today in the industry
is that no one has 'fear'. It has come to roads. That
is the reason why success is not happening. One in ten
is gaining in the box office. This is similar in other
languages also.
I would like to say to all producers wait with patience
you would win. Instead of yelling at each other do right
selection of subject. If the subject is good let anyone
act the film picks up. In case so and so takes high remuneration
leave it at that stage. Hiking is done by producers. They
make ugly remarks on the remuneration. This should not
happen.
Long ago somebody asked my husband to direct a film. He
said let me do good acting. The present situation is different.
A producer has to do all jobs. He is all in one. Why this
should happen? In our industry some of them restricted
to limited work they would still shined. Is it not a great
thing to do a job you know?
We
have to learn from other industry. Why Manirathnamji did
not made up his mind to act? Why he did not write a song?
Why K.Balachanderji not tried in other fields? In our
industry one man tries at too many things and finally
gives trouble for everyone. Making money is the ulterior
motive here. But this would not happen for a long time.
Look at what Chi.Udayashanker did. He was only writer.
That is why he became a good writer for long time and
did memorable work. After his demise we have not got one
person to his level.
In Hindi also it is same. A good director did not act.
They picked the good ones from each field and produced
a cinema. In Kannada to please the director the producer
ask him to become the hero. He accepts. Then he will not
be doing justice to either direction department or acting
department.
A lot of people are reading the column written by me in
Kannada Prabha popular daily and in Chitraloka mega portal.
When my son Raghavendra Rajkumar was on his way to airport
he got phone calls that they are waiting for Tuesday.
Incidentally this Tuesday - 6 th November 2005 is my birthday.
Raghu was wondering how come they all knew my birthday
date. Then they said they are waiting for the column written
by me. Director Bhargava, Phani Ramachandra, Pattabhiram
and others are reading this column without fail.
UNFORGETTABLE - Each one
will be having a talent. They have to use it properly
and come up. They should not say they can do all the work.
They cannot do justice. The one who steps into two boats
cannot travel long.
Chitraloka wishes Smt.Parvathamma Rajkumar on the occasion
of her birthday.
See
you next Tuesday. Namasthe.
