Perhaps
in the annals of Kannada cinema history the highest remake
rights could be attributed to ‘Jogi’ Kannada film. The
outright sale for Tamil and Telugu remake rights put forward
by Mr Vellam Kota Suresh for Rs.1.08 crores has been turned
down. Instead only for Telugu remake rights the ‘Jogi’
story has been sold for Rs.63 lakhs says the gleeful Prem
talking to media persons at Chancery Hotel in Bangalore
on the day of release of the film. Prem himself is making
it in Tamil. In the queue there are 8 persons asking for
the rights. But he is hell bent on doing it in Tamil –
reason the mother and son sentiment aptly suits Tamil
cinema he says.
‘Jogi’
has many records to its credit. 72 prints on the 72 years
of Kannada films, 172 theatres release and 353 show a
day is the startling news. The first week share of ‘Jogi’
for Ashwini Ramprasad is Rs.3 crores excluding the theatre
that comes to around Rs.2 crores.
One
of the many crazes for ‘Jogi’ that has built up is like
this – a youth in Hubli partially drunk hits bottles on
his head saying Prem has brought my real life story on
screen – I could not see my mother before cremation.
I
want to create a sensation like ‘Jogi’ in the audio for
my next film says Prem. He is producing another with the
same team and for the same producer.
