A Tribute To Father And Brother

It has been my long cherished ambition to mount a banner in the name of my father late Chi Udayashanker and brother late Ravishanker ‘UDAYARAVI’ and produce a film said Gurudutt at the media briefing of the film ‘Dattha’ at Dakshina Mukha, Nandi Theertha Devasthana at Malleswaram (opposite Kadu Malleswaram temple). Today it has materialized on the Vijayadashami day informed Gurudutt after the formal pooja celebration. ‘Dattha’ inaugural shot was flagged off by Dwarakish (camera switch on) and top producer Rockline Venkatesh sounded the clapboard with the backdrop of a small pond. At the Nandi Theertha temple where was additional festival look for the presence of bigwigs of the Kannada filmdom. The huge poster of dashing hero Darshan the flower decoration at the entrance was cynosure of all eyes.

Gurudutt’s mother Smt.Sharada Udayashanker (wife of unforgettable lyricist of Kannada cinema Chi.Udayashanker) lighted the lamp at a beautifully decorated pandal at the temple premises. Dattu, Chi Udayashanker’s sister and others observed this moment and the gleeful Gurudutt was behind his mother

Later speaking to media friends Gurudutt said this film starring Darshan the box office ‘Badshah’ today in Kannada cinema and charming beauty Ramya, the queen of hearts is an entertainer with good package of comedy, sentiments and action. I am of the older genre. I directed ‘Samara’ in 1995 and I have to adjust to the present scenario of film making. When I expressed my ambition of producing and directing the film Darshan has accepted immediately and so is actress Ramya. It is the greatness of Darshan if he says it is commitment for having stayed in our house in Chennai when he had come to take training in acting school Gurudutt answered to a question.

The shooting will be held in Bangalore and Mysore. For songs we are planning to go to Greece. The actual shooting of the film starts in December first week. We have plans to release the film in April next year. We have named the film ‘Datta’ because Lord Dattatreya of Ganigapura near Gulbarga is our family god. We have obtained this registered title from KCN Mohanji and the title was approved for the film by my friend Balaji added Gurudutt. We have plans to remix one of the songs of my father Chi.Udayashanker. There are six songs in the film and I am contemplating on the idea of getting lyrics written from my father time lyricists. I am not appearing in any role in this ‘Datta’ Gurudutt clarified to a question.

I am in the company of Komalkumar most of the time in the film ‘Datta’ said Darshan who was brimming with happiness. For me Komalkumar in the film is father, mother, brother and friend. One thing I will assure you that you will go back from the theatre after watching ‘Datta’ with your stomach full of laughter. For any orphan I show sympathy in the film. There is sentiment, action, comedy and romance (when Darshan forgot to add the word romance Actress Ramya included it and said otherwise what job I will be having she said laughing). The fans of Darshan will be looking a different kind of Darshan in this film assured Gurudutt!

The charming beauty of Kannada cinema sitting pretty with series of hits (she will be shortly crowned the Hat trick heroine) Ramya creates the mood and laughter at any media briefing she attends. This happened at the muhurut briefing of ‘Datta’ also. Darshan has given up the sharp weapons in this film she declared for that including Darshan everyone laughed. That is lively and bubbly Ramya! In this film Darshan says violence should not be there. In the first half my role is usual and the second half is full of twists. There is suspense. This type of role I have not done so far in my career. I hope I would live up to the expectations. After ‘Amritha Dhaare’ my responsibility has increased said Ramya. It is a nice atmosphere for me. Gurudutt is a ‘sweet heart’ and Darshan is so kind and decent. From his market image in this film I hope my market also boost up Ramya made a frank admission. I wanted to act opposite Darshan and the opportunities I got for Shastri and Dasa did not satisfy me on the grounds of subjects. I am looking for some message also from the films. This is definitely available in ‘Datta’ informed Ramya.

There was flood of guests on the occasion of the muhurut of Udayaravi Cinema’s maiden venture. Raghavendra Rajkumar, Dwarakish couple, Yogish (bridegroom getting married on 16th October with Susheela - Rithu) S.A.Govindaraju, S.A.Chinne Gowda, Soorappa Babu, Anandappa of Pramod and Prasanna theatres, actress Sudharani with her cute daughter, the family friend cum veteran journalist P.G.Srinivasamurthy couple and others were present on this occasion.

The story and screenplay for the film is lent by Janardhana Maharshi (the story writer for super hit Kannada film ‘Akash’), for the first time R.P.Patnayak is scoring the music for Darshan starring film, Ramesh Babu is the cameraman, dialogues are written by M.S.Ramesh and Rajasekhar, Art direction by Hosamane Murthy, still photography by Basavaraj, Sheetal Jain, production control by S.Shashikanth and Sunderraj.
