The mainstream leaders of the CII (Confederation of the
Indian Industry) particularly from the Entertainment medium
wing feels that self imposed restictions imposed on dubbing
of films by some of the states like Karnataka and Bengal
are creating road blocks for expansion of export market
for the Indian entertainment space.
Bobby Bedi, the
Chairman of the CII=Entertainment division, Mr. Amit Khanna, a leading
film personality and a trade analyst and Suresh, a leading exporter
of South Indian films feel that the exports of some regional films
will be in jeopardy as there is strong opposition to dubbed films
in states like Karnataka and Bengal and the opposition to dubbed films
is now building up in Andhra Pradesh.
'The Indian entertainment
space is growing stronger Focused marketing techniques and creating
an Indian brand world wide will certainly pave way for a phenomenal
growth in the export market for Indian films. But some restrictions
for the screening of dubbed films in some states is certainly creating
problems' said Bobby Bedi.
It is not only
the NRI’s but even a large number of foreigners have been addicted
to Indian cinemas because of their entertainment values, says Amit
Khanna and said sustained marketing avenues will enable Indian films
reach out new market and territories. In this connection he said that
a major breakthrough has been achieved in Germany and Turkey, while
the China market is still to be explored.
“Indian
films have created a familiarity and acceptance not only amongst the
Diaspora but also among the local audience internationally. This has
led to increase in the Indian film business’ says Bobby Bedi,
Chairman of the CII National Committee of entertainment. He also says
that Goa Film Bazaaar not only enables harnessing the business potential
of Indian show business sector, but it is also an ideal place to exchange
ideas scripts, semi developed projects and new developments in the
industry.
According to L.Suresh,
President of the South Indian film exporters association, films of
Super Star Rajnikanth have been popular in Turkey and Germany, where
his recent film “Chandramukhi’ has been dubbed to the
languages. He said that the overseas business earnings of some blockbuster
Tamil, Malayalam and Telugu films have grown bigger by three to four
times in the last two years. Suresh also said that it is the lack
of interest shown by the Kannada film producers which is making it
difficult to create and enhance a good export market to that industry.
