The 2008 mandate in the state of Karnataka has clearly indicated that people of Karnataka are not enamoured with the filmy glamour and are only bothered about the ground realities obtained at the time of elections. While the BJP which had depended less on the filmy glamour and had given a ticket only to one actor and one film director lost both the seats for the party despite emering as the single largest party in the state, the Congress party has lost heavily for issuing tickets to film artists and backing more number of film industry based candidates. JD (S) which had not given any ticket to any actor also did not fare well either. Former Chief Minister H.D.Kumaraswamy the leader of the party who is also a well known film producer-distributor has however won the election on a big margin.
The most shocking defeat is that of Rebel Star Ambareesh who had contested from the Srirangapattana constituency from Mandya district. Ambi had won the Parliamentary elections from Mandya for four times, and had wanted to play a big role in the state politics. But Ambareesh has failed for the second time in an Assembly election. First time he had been defeated from the Ramnagar constituency when he had contested on a Janata Dal ticket.
However, actors C.P.Yogeeshwar and B.C.Patil have proved to be Experienced campaign masters, as both of them have won the elections from Chennapattana and Hirekeroor Costituencies. Yogeeshwar has weathered a big storm this time too with a stronger JD (S) opponent.
Jaggesh has proved to be lucky in his second attempt from the Turuvekere constituency. The congress party had denied him the ticket initially, but the actor got the ticket after a big protest rally in Turuvekere. However, Shashikumar has lost his first Assembly elections from Challakere. Actress Umashri who had contested from the Congress ticket had lost her first battle for the Assemly elections. Actor Saikumar lost the elections from the Bagepalli constituency. Former Minister and actor Kumar Bangarappa and his brother Madhu Bangarappa have lost the elections along with their father S.Bangarappa who had contested against the would be Chief Minister B.S.Yediyurappa.
Film and Television actress Hemashri's candidature was not taken seriously in the industry or by the people of Chikkanayakanahalli. She has lost the elections in a huge margin. She had contested on a BSP Party ticket.
Director Mahendar had contested the elections from the Kollegal constituency on a BJP ticket was also not lucky in his first attempt. Mungaru Male producer E.Krishnappa who had contested from the Yelahanka constituency on a Janata Dal ticket and Actor Swasthik Shankar who had contested the Malleshwaram constituency from BSP have also lost the elections.
