As though the problems of the theatre crunch seen in 2012 is not enough, the beginning of the new year would see another problem surfacing. It has now become inevitable for the clash of Shivaraj Kumar-Priyamani starrer "Lakshmi' directed by Raghava Loki and Sudeep and Chiru Sarja's film "Varadanaayaka' directed by Ayyappa Sharma on January 4.
According to the sources both the films likely to are getting censored 26th.
Basha who was to distribute both these films is now relieved of the responsibility of releasing Varadanaayaka which has now gone to distributors Jayanna and Bhogeendra.
Nandesha which is hitting the screens on 28th December will be released in Anupama. Puneet's Yaare Koogadali has been getting good response initially. Since some of the films like Kranti Veera Sangolli Raayanna, Drama and Edhegaarike-released in the last few weeks are running well it would be futile to expect removal of films in such theatres. Since Abhinaya, Thribhuvan, Menaka and Bhoomika are not preferred by Kannada film producers that too the makers of hugely expected films, the choice of releasing these two films will rest on the remaining theatres. Rumours heard in Gandhinagar reveal that the choice of these two films are to get released in Triveni or Kapali. Triveni's collections have not shown any drop either.
But there is eagerness in the makers and distributors of these two films to release their products on January 4 only, as three big films are expected to hit the screens for the Sankranti Festival. The films of Ram Charan Tej and Mahesh Babu are hitting screens prior to the festival along with Kamal Hassan's "Vishwaroopam'. It would be difficult to get good crowds in the competitive environment. Perhaps this is the sole reason why producers of Lakshmi and Varadanayaka are pitching for January 4 release.
If Edhegaarike continues to get good share in the coming two weeks, then producers of Varadanaayaka and Lakshmi will face a big problem. May be they may opt for Tribhuvan.
There is a long time desire by Kannada film fans that two big films should not get released simultaneously as it would affect collections of both the films. But the delay factor in getting the prints ready and get a censor certificate and the competition from other language films is resulting in such a situation.
