Rumours either generated by the film team or otherwise are emerging from Aptharakshaka. After the trouble the fictional character Nagavalli is supposed to have given the actors during the shooting, the latest rumour spreading is that actress Lakshmi Gopalaswamy is ill. Lakshmi is one of the five heroines in the film. When contacted , however, the actress said that she was well "both mentally and physically." She is participating in a dance programme for television and brushed off the rumours saying there was no truth in it.

During the shooting of the film actress Vimala Raman complained that there were shadows moving around in her hotel room. She also 'sensed' something besides her on the bed. She was so disconcerted by the incident that she took a 10-day break from shooting. Rumour mongers had a field day blaming it on the 'ghost of Nagavalli.' Vishnuvardhan's death before the release of the film is being blamed on it. But hopefully the film makers stop encouraging these stories and find other means to promote their films.
