Super Star Upendra is all in all in cinemetographer turned director Sriram directed God Father which is produced by K.Manju. Sriram had promised that his first Kannada film will be a better project that the origina. Tamil Hit Varalaaru directed by K.S. Ravi Kumar. The film's second half is a real beauty and Sriram keeps up his word. The first half of the film could have been a little better, but still Upendra's awesome performance in all the three roles takes care of some minor aberrations in the film.
By far Upendra's mind-blowing performance as an old man and the Bharathanatyam Dancer will go down as his best in his illustrious career. His dialogue delivery, body language and his stylish mannerisms and movements gives an authentic touch to the role. The other two roles is much easier to perform, but still Uppi has followed his own method of essaying these two roles. But even here Upendra has mastered the art of performing the role of a psychopath Ajay.
God Father runs in a faster pace in the second half than in the first half. Nearly forty minutes of the first half does not take the movie forward, but the film's story starts its travel after the withdrawal of money in ATM counters. And then the film takes one twist after the another and viewers are made to sit on the edge of their seats. Uppi's three characters and the way the story takes its forward movement is sure to give lot of thrilling moments.
Soundarya makes a good debut, but it is better for her to watch her weight. She should also make some improvements in her performance. Catherine was a badchoice for the role of the mother. Ramesh Bhat, Sudha Belawadi, Sathyajit, Keerthiraj, and Hema Choudhary are impressive. The comedy artists have done precious little to bring in laughter in the proceedings.
A.R.Rehman has composed two melodious good songs.Naanu Ammana Huchcha is touching song, while the two love songs are well shot too. Sriram holds the trump card in cinematography while Basavaraju does a good job in editing. Bhaskar's dialogues are impressive.
It is Uppi all the way. The film is marked by Uppi's princely performance of Uppi and for Uppi fans.
