1969 marked the entry of many prominent personalities in the Kannada film industry. Among them, three stand apart; a director, a producer and an actor. Producer MP Shankar, who later became famous for his films based on forests and wild animals produced his first film, Kallara Kalla. His Bharani Films banner became one of the most popular production houses in years to come. Actor Gangadhar entered the film industry with the film Chowkada Deepa. Siddalingaiah, who is today considered as one of the greatest Kannada film directors also made his directorial debut with the film Mayor Muttanna.
